Your Starter Kit is built around one simple idea: one Concentrate, one Brightening Powder, and the technique to use them anywhere. No new bottle for every room. No hidden fillers. Just three steps to mix, and you are ready to clean.

STEP 1 — FILL WITH WATER

Pick the bottle you want to mix. Fill it up to the marked WATER line on the label.

STEP 2 — ADD THE CONCENTRATE

Pour the Multi-Surface Concentrate into the same bottle until you reach the marked CONCENTRATE line. Top off with a splash more water if there is space.

STEP 3 — CAP, SHAKE, CLEAN

Screw the sprayer or pump on, give the bottle a gentle shake to mix, and you are ready. The same dilution handles counters, bathrooms, glass, and most surfaces in your home.

WHAT IS IN THE BOTTLES

Multi-Surface Concentrate: Water, Coco Glucoside and Decyl Glucoside (plant-based sugar surfactants), Sodium Gluconate (water softener), Sodium Citrate (pH balancer), Citric Acid, and Musa Sapientum (Banana) Leaf and Trunk Extract as a natural preservative. No synthetic fragrance, dyes, alcohol, optical brighteners, sulfates, or quats.

Brightening Powder: Three ingredients only — Sodium Percarbonate (~60%), Sodium Bicarbonate (~30%), and Sodium Carbonate (~10%). No bleach, no dyes, no fragrance.

A FEW SURFACES TO KNOW ABOUT

Our Concentrate has a pH of about 4.7 — mildly acidic, like lemon juice or a tomato. That mild acidity is what makes it great on hard water, soap scum, and mineral deposits. A handful of surfaces deserve a quick mention: not because Scrunchy will harm them on contact, but because how you use it matters.

HOW LONG YOUR KIT LASTS

Your 32 oz Concentrate makes about 24 spray bottles. For a typical family of 3–4 using Scrunchy across kitchen, bathroom, and laundry, one bottle lasts roughly 10–12 weeks. The Brightening Powder lasts about 64 uses — ballpark 4–6 months at typical use.

STORAGE

Keep the Concentrate in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight — a cabinet or pantry is ideal. The Musa Sapientum (Banana) Leaf and Trunk Extract that acts as our natural preservative does best at room temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it disinfect or sanitize?

No. Scrunchy products clean by lifting and removing dirt, grime, and residue from surfaces. We do not make antibacterial, sanitizing, or disinfecting claims. For most everyday cleaning, physical removal is what you actually want.

What if I do need to disinfect?

When you genuinely need to disinfect (after raw meat, when someone has been sick), a non-toxic two-step approach works well alongside Scrunchy. Keep one spray bottle of distilled white vinegar (5% acidity) and a separate bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide (in its original brown bottle). Never mix them in the same bottle. Spray one, dwell 5–10 minutes, wipe. Then spray the other, dwell, wipe again. Order does not matter. This home method is not a substitute for an EPA-registered sanitizer if your situation calls for one.

What is the pH of the Concentrate?

About 4.7 — mildly acidic, similar to a tomato. The plant-powered acidity (citric acid, naturally derived) is excellent on hard water, soap scum, and mineral deposits. See Chapter 1 for the surface breakdown.

How should I store the Concentrate?

Keep it in a cool, dry spot out of direct sunlight — a cabinet under the sink or in the pantry is perfect. The banana leaf extract that acts as our natural preservative does best at room temperature, away from heat. The same goes for any spray bottles you have already mixed.

Why is the Concentrate amber-colored?

The amber color comes from the Musa Sapientum (Banana) Leaf and Trunk Extract we use as a natural preservative. It is naturally derived and may vary slightly batch to batch. Color does not affect performance.

What does it smell like?

We do not add fragrance, essential oils, or masking agents. You may notice a very faint natural scent from the banana extract or citric acid — most testers describe it as nearly odorless. If you are sensitive to fragrance, this is intentional.

Is it safe on stone, granite, or marble?

We do not recommend Scrunchy as your daily cleaner for natural stone. That said, a quick accidental spray on granite or marble is not an emergency. Wipe it off promptly and dry the surface. Quartz, porcelain, ceramic tile, glass, sealed engineered stone, and most laminates are all fine.

How do I use it for laundry?

Pre-treat stains by spraying directly with All-Purpose. Add 1 scoop of Brightening Powder to the empty drum, then 1–2 teaspoons of Concentrate to the dispenser drawer (or drum), and load your clothes. Full instructions are in Chapter 11.

Is it safe on wood?

Sealed wood (poly, urethane, lacquer, UV-cured finishes) is generally fine when you use a diluted solution and damp — not wet — application. Always test in a hidden area first. Wood with a natural oil or wax finish should be cleaned only with the manufacturer's recommended product. Specific dilution ratios are in Chapter 13.

Can I wash dishes with it?

Yes. For hand washing, use the All-Purpose Spray, the Foaming Soap, or add 1 teaspoon of Concentrate to a sink of hot water. For dishwashers, use a non-toxic dishwasher tablet — the Concentrate is not formulated for automatic dishwashers.

Can I add essential oils?

We do not recommend it. Our formula is intentionally fragrance-free because added scent is one of the most common irritants in cleaning products. Adding essential oils may turn the spray into an eye, skin, or respiratory irritant. If you choose to anyway, use organic oils processed without solvents.

Can it tackle mold and mildew on grout?

Yes. Make a paste of Brightening Powder and water, scrub it into the grout with a brush, and let it sit at least 10 minutes before rinsing. For stubborn spots, finish with a light spray of 3% hydrogen peroxide and let it air-dry.

How do I use it as a fruit and veggie wash?

Note: Scrunchy hasn’t been evaluated as a produce wash or personal-care/pet product — these are ways our testers stretch the kit, not label uses. For produce with skin (apples, cucumbers, peppers), spray with All-Purpose, wait about 30 seconds, and rinse well. For leafy greens or berries, soak in a sink of cool water with 1 teaspoon of Concentrate for 5–10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Is it septic-safe and greywater-safe?

Our ingredients are biodegradable and plant-derived, designed to break down in greywater systems and standard residential septic systems.

Is it gentle enough for skin?

Our formulas are made without synthetic fragrance, dyes, alcohol, sulfates, or quats — the most common irritants in conventional cleaners. The Foaming Soap is the product specifically diluted for skin. The Concentrate has not been lab-tested as a skincare product, so we recommend keeping it diluted and rinsing if it contacts skin for extended periods. Patch-test on a small area if you have known sensitivities.

Can I use my own bottles?

Yes. Refer to the dilution chart in Chapter 4 to mix your own bottles in any size. The All-Purpose ratio is 1 part Concentrate to 11 parts water (8 teaspoons per 16 oz bottle).

Quick Tips

LET IT DWELL

For tough jobs, spray and walk away for a few minutes before wiping. Time does most of the work. For heavy buildup, dwell longer — 10 to 15 minutes is fine on most surfaces.

CONCENTRATION IS A DIAL, NOT A RECIPE

If All-Purpose isn't cutting through a mess, do not be afraid to use a stronger mix. Spray with straight Concentrate diluted at a higher ratio, or follow with the Brightening Powder. The system is designed to flex with the job.

THE FIZZ FACTOR

If you sprinkle Brightening Powder on top of an All-Purpose spray, you might see a little fizz. It is harmless — see Chapter 14 for what it means and when to care.

ALWAYS TEST FIRST ON FABRICS

On carpets, upholstery, or any colored fabric, test in a hidden spot before treating the whole stain. Some fabrics can lighten or water-mark, especially with Brightening Powder.

MICROFIBER CLOTHS ARE YOUR FRIEND

Scrunchy formulas are designed to lift and loosen — microfiber traps and removes. They pair beautifully. Wash microfiber cloths in mesh laundry bags to keep microplastics out of your wastewater.

COLD WATER FIRST ON STAINS

Hot water sets protein stains (blood, milk, egg) into fabric. Always start with cold water, then escalate only if needed.

LOW FOAM IS NORMAL

Our plant-based sugar surfactants do not produce the dramatic suds you see with conventional cleaners. Less foam does not mean less clean — it just means we are not adding extra foaming agents you would have to rinse off.

PREVENT DYE BLEED BEFORE YOU WASH

For new colored fabrics that might bleed, soak in a gallon of water with 1 cup distilled white vinegar and ¼ cup salt for 24 hours. Rinse and repeat if dye is still loose. Then wash as normal.

Bottle Dilution Ratios

Your Starter Kit bottles already have fill lines marked, so you never have to measure. But if you want to use your own bottles, mop a floor, or hand-mix a custom solution, here is the full dilution map for the Concentrate.

A note on water: tap water works perfectly for most surfaces. For glass, mirrors, electronics, and stainless steel, distilled water is worth the small extra step — it prevents the mineral spots that show up after wiping.

All-Purpose Spray — General Uses

One bottle. One dilution. The All-Purpose Spray handles roughly 80% of cleaning in a typical home — counters, bathrooms, glass, kids' gear, even your car.

AROUND THE HOUSE

BASEBOARDS Spray onto a microfiber cloth (not directly onto the baseboard) and wipe along the length. Re-spray the cloth as needed.

BRICK & MASONRY Spray directly. Scrub with a stiff brush. Repeat for embedded grime.

CAMPING & OUTDOORS Bring a travel-size bottle along. Scrunchy is biodegradable, so cleanup at camp will not contaminate the soil or water.

CEMENT & CONCRETE Wet the surface, spray, let it sit a few minutes, then scrub with a stiff brush and rinse. For heavier oil and tire marks, sprinkle Brightening Powder on top before scrubbing.

WOOD DECKS Hose down the deck, spray with All-Purpose, and let it sit several minutes. Scrub with a stiff brush, then rinse. For mold or stubborn stains, follow with a power wash.

DOORS & DOOR FRAMES Spray onto a cloth or microfiber, wipe down, and dry.

HUMIDIFIERS Empty the tank, spray inside, and wipe out any residue or scum that has built up. Rinse before refilling.

PATIO & LAWN FURNITURE Remove cushions. Spray surfaces liberally. For heavy stains, let dwell 3–5 minutes. Wipe with a damp rag or rinse with a hose.

POOLS & POOL FILTERS Spray and rinse. Soak dirty filters in solution for 10 minutes, then rinse — they often come out usable rather than landfill-bound.

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT Spray, let dwell a few minutes, and wipe.

CARS, BIKES & ENGINES

ENGINES Hose first. Spray the wet engine and let dwell. Scrub with a stiff brush. Rinse with strong pressure. Increase concentration for heavy buildup.

CAR EXTERIOR Add 1 teaspoon Concentrate to a bucket of water. Sponge the car and rinse with a hose. Spot-spray bugs, sap, and droppings with All-Purpose, then rinse promptly to avoid stripping wax.

CAR INTERIOR Use distilled water in the bottle to avoid mineral rings on dark surfaces. Spray and wipe. Use a small brush for vents and crevices.

GRILLS Spray liberally. Let dwell 10–15 minutes. Scrub with a wire brush. Rinse with water.

TIRES Spray, scrub with a stiff brush, rinse, and buff dry.

All-Purpose Spray — Kitchen

CABINETS Test on the finish first. Spray a cloth and wipe. Dry with a clean cloth — wood and laminate finishes do not love standing moisture.

COFFEE MACHINES Add ¼ cup of All-Purpose (or 1 teaspoon of Concentrate) to the water reservoir, fill the rest with water, and run a brew cycle. Follow with a full cycle of plain water before brewing coffee.

COUNTERTOPS — QUARTZ, LAMINATE, BUTCHER BLOCK, SEALED CONCRETE Spray and wipe.

COUNTERTOPS — NATURAL STONE (GRANITE, MARBLE, ETC.) Not your daily cleaner for stone — use a stone-specific product. An accidental spray is not an emergency: wipe and dry.

CUTTING BOARDS (AFTER RAW MEAT) Rinse off any residue with hot water. Spray with All-Purpose. Let sit 2 minutes. Scrub with a brush. Rinse thoroughly with hot water. This removes residue — it is not a substitute for a registered sanitizer if your situation calls for one.

DISHES (HAND WASH) Use the Foaming Soap, the All-Purpose Spray, or add 1 teaspoon of Concentrate to a sink of hot water.

DISHWASHER (DEEP CLEAN) Pull out racks and the filter. Clean each separately with All-Purpose. Wipe down the door, gasket, and exterior. For everyday cycles, use a non-toxic dishwasher tablet — Concentrate is not formulated for automatic dispensers.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL Spray directly into the disposal. Let dwell 5 minutes to break down buildup and odor. Run with hot water for 1 minute.

FAUCETS Spray and let sit 30 seconds. Brush or wipe. Buff dry. Mineral spots respond well to a longer dwell — the citric acid in our Concentrate is excellent on hard water.

TRASH CANS Spray inside and out. Let dwell a few minutes. Wipe clean with a damp cloth or rinse with a hose if outdoors.

GREASE (COUNTERS & STOVETOP) Spray directly and let dwell 5–10 minutes before wiping. Repeat for layered grease. For very heavy grease, level up to straight Concentrate or follow with a Brightening Powder paste.

POTS & PANS Spray and let sit a few minutes. Scrub. For burnt-on food, fill with hot water and 1–2 scoops of Brightening Powder. Soak for several hours or overnight, then scrub clean.

RANGE HOODS & FILTERS Spray the hood and let dwell to dissolve grease. Wipe with a cloth. For metal mesh filters, soak in a sink of warm water with Concentrate, scrub, and rinse.

REFRIGERATOR Spray, let sit 30 seconds, and wipe clean. For stainless steel, spray onto a cloth instead of directly on the door.

SINKS (STAINLESS, PORCELAIN, COMPOSITE) For light cleaning, spray, dwell 30 seconds, scrub, and rinse. For deeper cleans or hard-water spots, make a paste of Brightening Powder and water, scrub it in, dwell 10 minutes, and rinse.

STAINLESS STEEL Spray onto a microfiber and wipe in the direction of the grain. Buff dry with a clean cloth.

STOVETOPS Spray and dwell a few minutes before wiping. For stuck-on food, level up to a Brightening Powder paste — dwell 5–10 minutes, scrub, wipe. Keep Brightening Powder away from gas igniters.

OVENS Preheat oven to its lowest warm setting, then turn it off. Spray the inside liberally with All-Purpose. Dwell 10 minutes or longer. Scrub, wipe with a damp cloth, then dry. For burnt-on residue, follow with a Brightening Powder paste.

MICROWAVES Place a bowl of water with a few sprays of All-Purpose inside. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Wipe interior with a soft cloth — the steam loosens everything for you.

CAST IRON, CARBON STEEL, ALUMINUM, COPPER, BRASS Quick wash and rinse only — do not let these pans soak in soapy water. Wash, rinse, dry immediately. For cast iron and carbon steel, rub a tiny drop of oil on the surface afterward to keep the seasoning strong.

All-Purpose Spray — Bathroom

The bathroom is where Scrunchy genuinely shines. Our Concentrate is mildly acidic, which makes it especially effective on hard water, soap scum, and mineral deposits — the toughest jobs in any bathroom. Pair it with the Brightening Powder for grout and deep cleans.

SOAP SCUM Spray liberally with All-Purpose. Dwell a few minutes. Scrub. For heavy buildup, level up to a Brightening Powder paste with water, or to undiluted Concentrate sprayed and dwelled.

HARD WATER DEPOSITS This is one of our strongest categories. Spray with All-Purpose and dwell 10 minutes. Scrub with the rough side of a sponge and rinse. For severe deposits, spray with straight Concentrate, dwell, scrub, rinse. Keep a squeegee in the shower — wiping down after each use prevents new deposits.

DRAINS (SLOW OR SMELLY) Pull out any visible hair or buildup. Spray around the drain opening. Dwell 5 minutes. Rinse with hot water and repeat as needed.

GROUT (GENERAL CLEANING) Make a paste of Brightening Powder and water. Scrub the paste into the grout with a brush. Dwell 10 minutes or longer. Rinse.

MOLD & MILDEW Make a paste of Brightening Powder and water. Scrub into affected grout or caulk. Dwell at least 5 minutes. Rinse or wipe. To finish, spray straight 3% hydrogen peroxide on grout lines and let air-dry.

SHOWERS & TUBS (PORCELAIN, ACRYLIC, FIBERGLASS) Spray, dwell a few minutes, scrub, rinse. For deeper cleaning, follow up with a Brightening Powder paste.

SINKS (PORCELAIN, CERAMIC) Spray, scrub, rinse. For mineral spots and a deeper clean, dwell 10 minutes before scrubbing.

TILE FLOORS (SPOT CLEAN) Spray and wipe with a clean cloth. For natural stone tile, use a stone-specific cleaner.

TILE FLOORS (MOP) Mix 1–2 teaspoons of Concentrate per gallon of water in a bucket.

TOILETS (EXTERIOR) Spray seat, lid, sides, and base. Dwell a minute. Wipe.

TOILETS (BOWL) For routine cleaning, sprinkle Brightening Powder around the bowl, dwell 5–10 minutes, scrub, flush. For mineral rings, spray with All-Purpose, dwell, scrub, flush.

SHOWER CURTAINS (FABRIC & PLASTIC) Spray, dwell 5 minutes, and wipe. For washable liners, run through the laundry with 1 scoop of Brightening Powder and a few clean towels.

Glass, Mirrors & Screens

Same All-Purpose dilution. One small technique change: spray onto your cloth, not onto the glass. This keeps the spray from over-saturating the surface and gives you a streak-free finish on the first pass.

WINDOWS Spray onto a microfiber cloth and wipe in straight strokes. For exterior windows, spray directly and squeegee. Works on car windshields too.

MIRRORS Spray onto a microfiber. Wipe. Buff with a dry cloth for a polished finish.

SHOWER GLASS Spray directly onto the glass. Squeegee or wipe with a microfiber. For hard water spots, sprinkle Brightening Powder on a damp sponge first.

EYEGLASSES & SUNGLASSES Spray a soft microfiber lightly, then wipe lenses. Do not spray directly onto frames with electronics or coatings.

PHONE, TABLET & LAPTOP SCREENS Lightly mist a microfiber. The cloth should be damp, not wet. Wipe gently. Follow with a dry cloth. Never spray directly onto a device.

TVS & MONITORS Same as above — dampen the cloth, not the screen. Avoid pressure on OLED and LCD screens.

STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES Spray onto a microfiber. Wipe in the direction of the grain. Buff dry with a clean cloth for a streak-free finish.

UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE (LIGHT DUSTING) Use distilled water in the bottle to avoid mineral rings. Lightly spray a cloth and blot. Always test a hidden spot first.

Tip: For glass, mirrors, and electronics, distilled water in your bottle helps prevent mineral spots. It is optional — our formula is designed to be streak-free with regular tap water.

Babies, Pets & People

Our products are made without synthetic fragrance, dyes, alcohol, sulfates, or quats — the ingredients most commonly flagged for irritation in conventional cleaners. We do not make medical claims about skin sensitivity, but our short ingredient lists are why many parents choose Scrunchy for the surfaces and gear that touch their kids and pets.

BABIES & LITTLE ONES

SURFACE WIPE-DOWNS (HIGH CHAIRS, TRAYS, TOYS) Spray All-Purpose onto a clean cloth or paper towel and wipe. Rinse the surface with a damp cloth afterward.

BOTTLES Hand wash with the Foaming Soap, All-Purpose, or 1 teaspoon of Concentrate in a bowl of hot water. Rinse thoroughly.

CAR SEATS Spray onto a cloth. Wipe straps, buckles, and fabric panels. Do not soak the harness.

CRIBS & PLAYPENS Spray onto a microfiber. Wipe rails, slats, and mattress edges. Allow to fully dry before use.

DIAPER PAILS Spray every time you empty. Dwell a minute. Wipe.

HIGH CHAIRS Spray and wipe down with a damp microfiber, including the tray, seat, and underside where food collects.

NEWBORN CLOTHING Wash with Concentrate per the laundry instructions in Chapter 11. No fragrance, no optical brighteners, nothing harsh against new skin.

PACIFIERS Spray and wipe. For deeper clean, soak in hot water with a teaspoon of Concentrate. Rinse well.

TOYS (NON-POROUS) Spray and wipe. For porous or soft toys, soak in water with 1 teaspoon Concentrate, rinse, and air dry.

PERSONAL CARE

DENTURES & RETAINERS Soak in All-Purpose and brush with a soft toothbrush. Do not use on brand-new dental appliances — wait one month for them to fully cure.

PETS

LITTER BOXES Empty fully. Spray, scrub, and rinse with hot water. Air dry before refilling.

PET CAGES & CRATES Sweep out any debris. Spray. Dwell 5 minutes. Wipe and rinse.

ACCIDENTS (URINE & FECES) Soak up or remove excess. Spray and dab clean with a paper towel. For carpets, dwell 5 minutes and blot with a damp cloth. Pull back the carpet edge to clean the underlay if you can.

PET BEDS & BLANKETS Wash with Concentrate per laundry instructions. Add 1 scoop Brightening Powder to neutralize odor.

PET BOWLS Hand wash with Foaming Soap or All-Purpose. Rinse thoroughly. Run through the dishwasher weekly.

Stain Guide

The basic rule: spray with All-Purpose, agitate, and wash. For tough stains, sprinkle Brightening Powder on top or soak. Most stains come out if you treat them quickly and resist the urge to dry them in the dryer before they are fully gone.

FABRIC RULES OF THUMB

• Whites: Brightening Powder can sit a few hours or overnight. Even white fabric can lighten by a shade or two — test first.
• Colored fabrics: Soak in a Brightening Powder solution rather than letting the powder sit directly on the fabric. Wash promptly after pre-treating.
• Cold water first: Hot water sets protein stains (blood, milk, egg). Always start cold.
• Do not dry until clean: Heat sets stains. Air dry until the stain is fully gone, then dry as usual.

COMMON STAINS — USE ALL-PURPOSE

AVOCADO Spray, agitate gently, and dwell a few minutes. Soak if needed and wash.

BEVERAGES & JUICE Spray and dab with a wet towel.

BLOOD Spray with cold water and All-Purpose. Agitate with a brush or towel. Rinse. For set stains, soak overnight in cold water with a scoop of Brightening Powder.

CARPETS & RUGS (SPOT) Spray with All-Purpose and agitate. Blot with a damp cloth. For tougher stains, follow up with a Brightening Powder paste. Vacuum any residue when dry. Test colored carpet first — Brightening Powder can lighten dye.

CHOCOLATE Lift off any solid pieces first. Spray and agitate gently with a cloth.

COUCHES Use distilled water in the bottle. Test in a hidden spot first. Gently scrub with a damp cloth. Skip Brightening Powder on upholstery unless tested.

CRAYON & PENCIL ON WALLS Spray, dwell a couple of minutes, and rub with a damp cloth. Test on painted walls first to make sure the paint is washable.

CURTAINS Spray and gently agitate with a damp cloth. For deeper clean, soak or run on a gentle wash cycle.

DIRT ON FABRIC Spray and dwell 5–10 minutes before washing. For tough soil, soak overnight in 1 teaspoon Concentrate and a scoop of Brightening Powder dissolved in water.

GENERAL FOOD STAINS Spray with All-Purpose, blot, and rinse. Treat as soon as possible.

GRASS Dampen the fabric, spray, and agitate. For tough stains, soak in a Brightening Powder solution. For set stains, escalate to straight Concentrate.

HARD WATER ON FABRIC Spray and dwell. The acid in our Concentrate is well-suited to mineral stains. Scrub with a stiff brush. Repeat as needed.

HONEY Spray liberally. Dwell 5 minutes or longer. Agitate the fabric and rinse.

INK & MARKER Spray and scrub to lift. Wash as normal. Set-in stains that have already gone through the dryer are unlikely to come out fully.

LEATHER Test a hidden spot first. Spray solution onto a damp cloth, then wipe. Do not soak leather.

LIPSTICK Spray, dwell 3–5 minutes, agitate with a damp cloth. Soak before washing for stubborn cases.

MAKEUP Spray and agitate with a damp cloth. Soak in a Brightening Powder solution for tough cases.

MYSTERY STAINS Spray with All-Purpose. Soak in cold water 5–10 minutes (or longer) before washing.

SILK Spray and dab gently with a damp cloth. Soak only if needed. Wash according to the garment label. Skip Brightening Powder.

UPHOLSTERY Test first. Use distilled water in the bottle. Spray, gently agitate with a soft brush, or blot with a damp cloth.

WINE Spray with All-Purpose immediately. Agitate. For older wine stains, soak in a Brightening Powder solution after the initial spray treatment.

HEAVY-DUTY STAINS — USE STRAIGHT CONCENTRATE

OIL & GREASE Wet the garment with warm-hot water. Apply Concentrate directly to the stain. Rub the fabric together until soapy. For colored fabrics, soak or wash promptly. For whites, follow with a Brightening Powder soak.

PERMANENT MARKER Apply straight Concentrate to the stain. Agitate to lift. For stubborn marks, soak overnight before washing.

TOMATO SAUCE Apply Concentrate, rub fabric until soapy, then soak in a Brightening Powder solution overnight for difficult stains.

Laundry with the Concentrate

Your Multi-Surface Concentrate doubles as laundry detergent. Pair it with the Brightening Powder for whites, brights, and odor removal. No fragrance, no dyes, no optical brighteners.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-treat any stains with the All-Purpose Spray (see Chapter 10). Then load the machine.

1. Add 1 scoop Brightening Powder to the empty drum.
2. Add Concentrate to the dispenser drawer (or directly to the drum if you do not have one).
3. Load clothes.
4. Run as usual.

HOW MUCH CONCENTRATE PER LOAD

• Standard load: 1 teaspoon.
• Medium-large load: 1½ teaspoons.
• Heavily soiled or large load: 2 teaspoons.
• Hard water areas: start at the high end of these ranges.

Hard water uses more Concentrate than soft water. Adding 1 cup of distilled white vinegar to the wash also helps cut through hard water and softens fabrics naturally.

DELICATES

Hand-soak in a bucket or sink of cool water with ½ teaspoon of Concentrate for 30+ minutes. Rinse by hand or run on the gentle cycle. Air dry flat or hang.

LAUNDRY STRIPPING (THE DEEP CLEAN)

Once a season or for towels and sheets that have built up residue: fill a sink or bathtub with hot water (or whatever the fabric label allows). Group items by color so dyes do not bleed. Add 1 tablespoon Concentrate and 2 scoops of Brightening Powder. Stir until the powder fully dissolves. Submerge clothes and soak overnight. Then run through the washer with an extra rinse cycle.

Foaming Soap

The Foaming Soap bottle uses a 1:4 dilution — one part Concentrate to four parts water (about 2 oz of Concentrate per 16 oz bottle) — and the foaming pump turns it into a soft, billowy lather. It works as a hand soap, but our founding testers find it useful for far more than that.

A note on skin: our Foaming Soap is made without synthetic fragrance, dyes, alcohol, sulfates, or quats. Formal lab testing for skin and eye-area use is not yet on file. The uses below come from tester feedback — if you have known sensitivities, patch-test on a small area first and discontinue if you notice any irritation.

PERSONAL CARE

HAND WASHING Pump foam into wet hands and lather for 20 seconds. Rinse.

BODY WASH Several of our testers use it in the shower or bath as a gentle alternative to scented body wash. Patch-test on a small area first and discontinue if you notice irritation.

SHAVING Lather creates a smooth, fragrance-free base for shaving.

MAKEUP BRUSHES Soak brushes in warm water with a few pumps of Foaming Soap for 5–10 minutes. Swirl, rinse, and air dry on a flat towel.

WHERE WE DRAW THE LINE The Foaming Soap is formulated for hands and external skin. We haven’t lab-tested it for the face or eye area, so we don’t recommend it there — a dedicated, tested face product is the safer choice.

AROUND THE HOUSE

HAND-WASHING DISHES Squirt onto a sponge and wash. Or fill the sink with hot water and a few pumps.

CATS & DOGS Note: Scrunchy hasn’t been evaluated as a personal-care or pet product — this is a way our testers stretch the kit, not a label use. Wet your pet, lather, scrub, and rinse fully. Avoid eyes and ears.

JEWELRY Soak (not opals or pearls) in a bowl of water with a few pumps for 3–5 minutes. Brush with a soft toothbrush. Rinse and dry.

PAINT BRUSHES Soak in a few pumps of foam in warm water for 5–10 minutes. Rinse and shape bristles to dry.

The Concentrate — Custom Uses

Beyond filling spray bottles, the Concentrate handles the jobs where you need to dial dilution very specifically — wood floors, walls, carpet machines, and custom mixes.

CARPET CLEANING MACHINES

Always use a very dilute solution — concentrated cleaners can leave residue that re-attracts dirt.

• 1–2 teaspoons per 1 gallon of water (16 cups).
• ½–1 teaspoon per ½ gallon of water (8 cups).
• ¼–½ teaspoon per ¼ gallon of water (4 cups).
• ⅛–¼ teaspoon per ⅛ gallon of water (2 cups).

SEALED FLOORS — CERAMIC, PORCELAIN, VINYL, LINOLEUM

Vacuum or sweep first. Mix 1–2 teaspoons of Concentrate in 1 gallon of water. Mop or use a microfiber spray mop. Damp, not wet — most floor finishes do not love standing water.

HARDWOOD FLOORS

HEPA vacuum or microfiber-mop first to lift grit. Use a much weaker dilution on sealed wood than on tile, because stronger solutions can break down certain finishes over time.

• ⅛ to ¼ teaspoon Concentrate per 2 cups of water (most floors).
• ¼ to ½ teaspoon per 4 cups (¼ gallon).
• ½ to 1 teaspoon per 8 cups (½ gallon).
• 1 to 2 teaspoons per 1 gallon (16 cups).

Spray the solution onto a damp microfiber mop rather than directly onto the floor. Always test a hidden corner first.

Important: hardwood with a natural oil or wax finish should be cleaned only with the manufacturer's recommended product. Scrunchy can lift natural finishes. It works well on most urethane, acrylic, polyurethane, and UV-cured synthetic finishes.

HARDWOOD FURNITURE

Mix ⅛ to ¼ teaspoon of Concentrate per 2–4 cups of water. Apply with a damp cloth — never spray directly onto a wood surface. Test the finish first.

WALLS & CEILINGS

Mix 1 teaspoon Concentrate per 1 gallon of water. Wipe with a damp rag or sponge. This is a once-a-year (or moving in / moving out) job rather than a weekly one.

WALLPAPER & PAINTED DRYWALL

Mix 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon of water. Test in a small spot first. Wipe gently with a damp rag and dry immediately — both surfaces are sensitive to standing moisture.

SHOES

• Method 1 (washable shoes): Soak in cold water with 1 capful of Concentrate and 1 scoop of Brightening Powder for a few hours. Wash on cold, gentle cycle. Air dry in the sun.
• Method 2 (white sneakers): Spray with All-Purpose. Sprinkle Brightening Powder on top, wet with more spray, and agitate until soapy. Dwell a few hours. Rinse with water and dry in the sun.

WOOD-SAFE DUSTING SPRAY

For a homemade dusting spray that handles fingerprints and dust without dulling sealed wood:

• 1 cup distilled water.
• ⅛ teaspoon Concentrate.
• 1 tablespoon olive or jojoba oil (optional, for extra polish).
• 3 drops organic lemon essential oil (optional).

Spray onto a microfiber, then wipe surfaces. Always test on the wood finish first.

Brightening Powder

The Brightening Powder is your scrubbing partner. It boosts stain removal, brightens whites, and tackles tough surface buildup. Three ingredients only — sodium percarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium carbonate. No bleach, no fragrance, no dyes. Full ingredient list →

How it works: when sodium percarbonate hits water, it releases hydrogen peroxide and washing soda. The peroxide lifts stains and the alkaline carbonates boost cleaning power. The reaction is most active for the first 5–20 minutes after mixing.

THE FIZZ FACTOR: PICK A LEAD FOR THE TOUGHEST JOBS

If you spray All-Purpose and sprinkle Powder on top, you might see a little fizz. That is just the slightly acidic Concentrate meeting the alkaline Powder — completely harmless. The trade-off is they spend a bit of their cleaning power on each other.

Our plant-based sugar surfactants — the workhorses that actually lift dirt — are largely unaffected by the pH shift. So mixing them does not break anything. For 90% of household messes, layering them works just fine.

For the toughest 10% — burnt-on grease, deep grout, set-in stains — pick one to lead. Use the spray when grease is the main problem. Use a Powder paste with plain water when scrubbing power is the main problem.

POTS & PANS (BURNT-ON FOOD)

Fill the pan with hot water and 1–2 scoops of Brightening Powder. Let it soak for several hours or overnight. Scrub clean. Repeat for layered burns.

CARPETS & RUGS

Test a hidden spot first on colored fabric. For light stains, spray with All-Purpose, blot, and let dry. For tough stains, blot the spray out, then apply a Brightening Powder paste, dwell 5–10 minutes, blot clean, and vacuum the residue once dry.

LAUNDRY BOOST

Add ½ to 1 scoop to the empty drum before adding clothes. This ensures the powder distributes evenly through the wash water rather than sticking to fabric. Whitens whites, brightens colors, and lifts odors. Safe in mixed loads.

MOLD & MILDEW

Make a paste of Brightening Powder and plain water. Scrub into affected grout, caulk, or surface. Dwell at least 5 minutes. Rinse or wipe. Finish with a spray of 3% hydrogen peroxide on grout lines and let air-dry.

SHOWERS, TUBS & SOAP SCUM

For light buildup, spray All-Purpose, dwell, scrub, rinse. For heavy buildup, make a Brightening Powder paste with water, scrub in, dwell 5–10 minutes, rinse.

STAIN REMOVER (PRE-SOAK)

Add 1–2 teaspoons of Concentrate and ½–1 scoop of Brightening Powder to a sink or tub of water. Stir until dissolved. Submerge the item. Soak for a few hours or longer until clean. Then wash.

STOVETOPS

Spray with All-Purpose and dwell first. For stuck-on food, follow with a Brightening Powder paste, scrub in, dwell 5–10 minutes, scrub. Keep dry powder away from gas igniters.

TILE & GROUT

Make a paste of Brightening Powder and water. Scrub into grout lines with a brush. Dwell 15–20 minutes. Rinse.

TOILETS

Flush to wet the bowl. Sprinkle Brightening Powder around the bowl. Dwell 5–10 minutes. Scrub with a brush and flush.
