Ingredients
California's Cleaning Product Right to Know Act (SB 258) requires manufacturers to disclose all intentionally added ingredients in cleaning products. We go further: every ingredient is listed below with a plain-English explanation of what it does and why it's in the formula.
All Scrunchy Living products are formulated without quats (quaternary ammonium compounds), synthetic fragrance, bleach, alcohol, parabens, dyes, or optical brighteners.

About These Ingredients
What are quats and why are they not in Scrunchy products?
Quaternary ammonium compounds (quats), including benzalkonium chloride, are disinfecting agents used in many conventional cleaning sprays and wipes. They have been associated with respiratory sensitization, skin irritation, and concerns about contributing to antibiotic-resistant bacteria in research reviewed by the FDA, EPA, and Environmental Working Group. Scrunchy Living products remove dirt and grime using plant-derived surfactants instead — no disinfecting claims, no quat residue.
What is Banana Leaf/Trunk Extract and why is it in a cleaning product?
Musa Sapientum (Banana) Leaf/Trunk Extract serves a dual role in Scrunchy Living formulas: it is both the primary active cleaning agent and the natural preservative.
As a cleaning agent, it contains naturally occurring enzymes — flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, glycosides, and terpenoids — that break down and digest organic residue on surfaces. This enzymatic action is what removes dirt, grime, and biological soil without the need for synthetic solvents or quats.
As a preservative, it inhibits microbial growth in the formula, keeping it stable over time without synthetic preservatives like parabens or formaldehyde-releasing agents.
It is 100% plant-derived, readily biodegradable, non-toxic, and carries a Natural Origin Index of 1 (100% natural origin) per ISO 16128. The ingredient is cruelty-free — no animal testing was conducted on it or any of its source materials.
Allergy note: Individuals with latex-fruit syndrome or banana allergies should be aware this ingredient is present. While topical exposure via a cleaning surface is different from dietary exposure, we disclose this out of an abundance of caution.
What is Coco-Glucoside?
Coco-Glucoside is a surfactant (cleaning agent) derived from coconut oil and glucose (plant sugar). It is used in many personal care and cleaning products as a gentle, biodegradable alternative to synthetic surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). Classified as "low concern" by the EWG.
What is Decyl Glucoside?
Decyl Glucoside is a surfactant derived from plant sugars (glucose and fatty alcohols from plants like coconut). Like Coco-Glucoside, it is biodegradable and classified as "low concern" by the EWG. It is used in baby care products and sensitive-skin formulations due to its gentle profile.
Why is citric acid in the formula?
Citric acid is a naturally occurring organic acid found in citrus fruits. In cleaning formulas, it acts as a pH adjuster and mild chelating agent — it helps the surfactants work more effectively, especially in hard water conditions. It is on the EWG's Green List of ingredients.
California SB 258 — Cleaning Product Right to Know Act

This page fulfills that requirement for all Scrunchy Living products sold in California. All ingredients are disclosed above, including the functional purpose of each.
